Opium and AbsintheOpium and Absinthe by Lydia Kang

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Unfortunately(only because) I chose this as a first for a buddy read in a facebook group I am in, which meant it took 4 weeks to read and I had to wait until group discussions to continue reading and I could only read certain sections that were plotted out in a period of time. Of course each section I had my Veruca Salt I want it now Daddy attitude.

I love Tillie Pembroke and am so sad that concluding reading this book she is no longer a part of my life.

I also very much enjoyed Ian's character and how he looked for the best in Tillie whilst her family Mother and Grandmama treated her THE WORST.

The Erickksons all of them. HORRIBLE PEOPLE. I will not go further for spoilerssake.

But third week of group chat discussion I will just say I had a hunch of who the murderer was, and I was shocked to find out I WAS RIGHT! My line of thinking didn't exactly line up with how it all came about nor how investigator Tillie came to the resolution.

Overall though I enjoyed pretty much every bit of this book besides that one Tom part and the entire concept of James Cutter I hope I never meet a human like him in my life.

I would recommend this book to people but I'm not sure it is everyone's cup of tea. Great to find out that it did not take the Dracula or Historian route and have a real life Vampire though!
