Anxious PeopleAnxious People by Fredrik Backman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Okay so I read this book in ONE DAY.
A lot went on but all of it I had to know and I had to know it right away.
It was a book about a bridge.
No a bank robbery.
Actually a hostage situation.
Nope an apartment viewing.
Good cop bad cop?
The human spirit- that's it! That is what this book was ultimately about. All those other things, they all happened but the overlying theme of all of it.

Each character was so witty, fun (except for Zara she was anti-fun until the end though so happy she came around a little tiny bit I mean she tried Pizza!) and completely original.

Having Jack and Jim be father and son working together as cops was a fun twist.

Our Bank Robber never got a name. And it took a good section of the book before they got a gender too. This determining factor plays a role in the ending too.

The real estate agent was a flaky person but that made her role in it all work. I was thinking about her in the back of my mind the entire time like wait where DID she go? Maybe she IS the robber? You'll have to read it to see what on earth I am talking about. Jack thought he had it all figured out.

The dynamics of Roger and Anna-Lena were entertaining but also bothersome, I hoped their entire marriage wasn't like this. I was even more scared for them when Lennart appeared later on. I understand Anna-Lena involving him however I also get how hurt Roger's ego was at the same time.

Julia and Ro were also a breath of fresh air. Even with their conflicts too. Locking a pregnant woman up anywhere is never a great idea. How was the last second bank robber turned hostage taker supposed to know there was a pregnant woman amongst everyone though right?

Then there was Estelle oh bless her heart. I actually did believe Knut was parking the car. There were parts of her storyline I cried over. Whether I was overtired from staying awake so long to read this all or they truly did pull on the heartstrings.

Put all these people in one place together then the father and son apparently being the only cops on duty and well understaffed while this is all going on it was a three ring circus. Meanwhile the hostage negotiator is on his way from Stockholm.

The only part of the whole thing I would have taken points away for I didn't understand the jokes about Stockholmers. I get the actual Stockholm syndrome where the hostages bond with their captors which is kind of what is going on here but I think they are joking about actual people from the place too?? - if anyone actually gets what was going on there please comment and explain it to me!
But I will not take any points away for how addicted I was to this story and still am two days later.

Then we have Zara and her appointments with Nadia her therapist. Her always moving the photos around and counting windows. It took her the length of the story to read the letter she carried in her purse for ten years from the man who jumped but it wasn't anything bad. She was at the apartment showing to begin with as a Hobby she says to basically see how the other half lives. I would LOVE to see what happens with her and Lennart though!! That seems interesting.

It has been years since I have had a book hook me so hard that I stayed up all night reading it. I did take some breaks and sleep for maybe an hour at a time but it was not solid sleep as I laid there wondering what was going to happen next in my book so I woke back up to keep reading. SUCH A GREAT TIME!

Original Review upon completing:
Got er done.
Review after some solid sleep pulled an all nighter on and off THAT GOOD!

Yeah same here like Angels and Demons since I did that and I was in the tub for 3 hours with that one haha freezing my damn ass off but putting it down to get out of the tub was too much time to take me away from what was going on hahaha. Me too it was wonderful and I've caught up on my sleep already too!

Ah, Fredrik Backman! I LOVED "Bear Town" and "Us Against Them" by him, because, well ... HOCKEY plays a part in those. Page turners, too, although I didn't read them in one day.

YES! Of course, me being obsessed with bears was what made me curious when I read the title of the book already. And when I then read the synopsis, I was like, "GIVE. ME. IT!" Said and done. A while later I found out that "Us Against Them" was going to be the sequel, and I had to have that one, too. There are also some parts in there which hit home, as in, relatable quotes. <3
